The television operators in Hungary have designed a plan against platforms IPTV (Internet television transmission) that consists of launching denial-of-service attacks (DDoSfor its acronym in English) against the websites that host these services.

These operators have started a round of consultations with interested parties, from legislators to Internet service providers and copyright holders, which they detail in a statement sent to the Hungarian Communications Association (MKSZ) echoed TorrentFreak.

The objective of this proposal is to determine if it is possible to launch a DDoS attack against IPTV platforms and respect the legal framework. The MKSZ has denounced to more than one hundred illegal television distributors in the country in recent years, but investigations are slow and ineffective.

As a possible solution they have proposed the launch of DDoS attacks against pirate IPTV platforms. They would be carried out by a specific organization, with the necessary official levels of supervision and control and with legal authorization.

A DDoS attack is a type of threat that tries to crash a website with malicious traffic or network resource so that it is no longer available and is unable to offer its services normally.

The idea is to repeatedly launch DDoS attacks on these illegal providers. On paper, the MKSZ theory is that being the victim of one of these attacks, the platform will change your IP address to keep its services active.

This transfer would entail a “significant” loss of time, which would leave its clients without service. In addition, if the agency traces your IP address, it can repeat the same operation until the distributor gives up and ceases its activity or loses its customers due to the “poor quality” of its offer.

A PLAN TO CLEAN SERVERS OF “UNDESIRABLES”

The agency’s proposal also takes into account the owners of the servers that these illegal distributors may be using to carry out their activities since they do not have their own.

Instead of acknowledging the damage his attacks can cause, the MKZS believes that they can help them choose better ‘tenants’ who are not of an ‘undesirable’ nature. For their part, the platforms would face more difficulties when it comes to finding a server from which to deploy their services.
