The Government of the Netherlands has already supplied Ukraine with more than 170 million euros in weapons material to defend itself against the invasion of Russia, ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24.
This has been detailed by the Dutch Defense Minister, Kajsa Ollongren, in a letter addressed to the country’s House of Representatives in which, in addition, she stresses that the Executive will continue to make efforts along these lines to increase Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.
The minister explained that the Executive will not go into details about the administered material, although she has pointed out that the next package will include three armored howitzers, information that had already been advanced last week during the Atlantic Alliance summit in Madrid.
With these, Amsterdam will raise the total number of armored howitzers delivered to kyiv to eight, a type of artillery considered to be the heaviest of all that the Armed Forces of the Netherlands have, according to the Dutch public broadcaster NOS.
In addition, the Netherlands, together with Germany, will provide training and education to Ukrainian soldiers on the use of this war material. Conversations are still under way for a third country to also join this instruction project.
Finally, Ollongren has pointed out that the support of the Netherlands to Ukraine is “acceptable given the current circumstances”, although he has warned that it is increasingly complex to deliver this type of goods without affecting the preparation itself.
