The Natural Resources Division organized the third session of the Online Seminars: "Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Tariff Regulation in El Salvador"

On May 31, the third session of the Online Seminar was held, under the direction of Ms. Silvia Saravia Matus, Economic Affairs Officer of the Water and Energy Unit of the Natural Resources Division of ECLAC, and her team. of experts. The session was attended by representatives of various national entities, such as the Salvadoran Water Authority (ASA) and the National Administration of Aqueducts and Sewers (ANDA).

The session, titled “Moving from cost to rate,” focused on analyzing the transition from cost to rate, considering aspects such as the rate in one or more parts, user categories and consumption blocks. After acquiring theoretical knowledge, participants carried out an interactive activity to apply what they learned.

The social rate was also addressed, delving into types of subsidies, direct and cross subsidies, and recommendations were offered to define a subsidy policy. The session concluded with a round table where participants shared their experiences and questions with other ECLAC counterparts and specialists.

The Online Seminars “Towards sustainable and inclusive tariff regulation in El Salvador” are an integral part of the national technical assistance provided within the framework of the ROSA project. Throughout four sessions, scheduled for the months of May and June 2024, a detailed analysis of the technical and theoretical aspects of tariff regulation will be carried out, exploring its application in the Salvadoran context.
