The Moroccan Government will install security cameras in the streets to combat begging

19 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior has announced that it will install security cameras in the main cities of the country to combat begging.

The Minister of the Interior, Abdel Wafi Laftit, explained in a parliamentary appearance that in 2021, 32,669 people were arrested for begging in the streets, including 2,975 foreigners; while in 2022 there were 28,769 arrested, 2,408 of them foreigners.

“The Ministry of the Interior attaches great importance to combating begging due to its negative impact on the feeling of security among the citizens affected by these activities and the aggressive behavior of some of them, as well as the exploitation of minors and people in need. that distort the aesthetic image of the streets”, he pointed out.

For this reason, “the Ministry will install surveillance cameras to improve security and prosecute those responsible for these events on Moroccan streets,” reports the Nador City news portal.
