Pony Canyon has announced that the anime adaptation of “The mononoke lecture logs of Chuzenji-sensei: he just solves all the mysteries” will debut in April 2025. Based on the manga by Aki Shimizu, this anime will be a spinoff and prequel to the novel series Hyakki Yako by Natsuhiko Kyōgoku, a renowned Japanese author. With a unique supernatural mystery setting and a promising cast, the series is expected to captivate both fans of the genre and new viewers.
The anime will star Kaori Maeda, who will play Kanna Kusakabe, and Katsuyuki Konishi, who will play Akihiko Chuzenji.
The plot takes place in a specific historical context, in Tokyo in 1948, just after the Second World War. The story follows Kanna Kusakabe, who has just entered her second year of high school, and her meeting with the new language teacher, Akihiko Chuzenji.
From the beginning, strange events and supernatural phenomena begin to happen around the young protagonist, leading her to seek help from the serious and enigmatic Chuzenji-sensei. Thus, an unconventional relationship begins to develop between them, while the professor, with his vast knowledge, becomes involved in solving strange mysteries that affect the young student.
The anime, which will be directed by Chihiro Kumano, who has previously worked on projects such as A Couple of Cuckoos and Moriarty the Patriotis being produced by 100Studio.
The scripts will be supervised by Atsushi Oka, known for his work on Hensuki and Cardfight!! Vanguard Divinezwhile the character designs will be carried out by Masahiko Suzuki, who has worked on Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs.
On the other hand, the musical team will be led by Keiichi Hirokawa and Ryūichi Takada, both members of MONACA.
As mentioned above, the story is set in a Tokyo rebuilt after the war and, in this setting, elements of everyday life begin to coexist with paranormal phenomena.
Kanna, in her role as a high school student, will witness inexplicable events that will connect her with the mysterious Chuzenji-sensei, a reserved man of few words who seems to have answers for everything and who, despite his distant attitude, becomes a key figure to solve the enigmas.

To date, the manga has been collected in ten volumes, the last of which was published on October 8, 2024. The work, which is part of the Bara Jūji Sōsho (Rozen Kreuz Series), has a “shared world” with the novels Hyakki Yako by Natsuhiko Kyōgoku, who is credited with the creation of this literary universe.
