The military wing of Hamas denounces a cash killed in an Israeli attack

Aug. 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ezzedin al Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, have denounced this Sunday the death of one of their troops in an Israeli bombardment, in what would be their first death during the campaign that the Hebrew Army is waging against the terrorist organization Islamic Jihad and from which Hamas, until now, has refrained from participating.

In a statement collected by the ‘Times of Israel’, Hamas has denounced the death of Muhamad Afana from the Jabaliya refugee camp, within the framework of the “continuous Zionist aggression” in the Gaza Strip.

Israel has limited itself to reporting two explosions in the refugee camp but has blamed the detonations on Islamic Jihad rockets that fell short on their way into Israeli territory.

The Israeli Army has assured that its operation is only directed against Islamic Jihad and not against the positions of Hamas, with which it has maintained a fragile truce since last year.

This announcement comes after it was revealed that Israel and Islamic Jihad had reached a ceasefire agreement that would take effect this afternoon, according to multiple Palestinian sources and Egyptian mediators.

According to the negotiators, an announcement is expected for 5:00 p.m. local time, according to the newspaper ‘Extra News’.

For its part, the Al Arabiya chain, citing its own sources, has indicated that Hamas would already be aware of the terms of the agreement and would have given its approval, before announcing the death of its combatant.
