The migrants killed in a confusing episode with the military in Chiapas are from Honduras, El Salvador, Peru and Egypt, according to the Mexican prosecutor’s office

( Spanish) –– The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico (FGR) reported this Thursday the nationalities of the six migrants who died in a confusing episode between the military and subjects who were allegedly transporting people in the southern state of Chiapas, in an area near the border of Mexico with Guatemala.

The FGR statement details that the deceased are one person from Honduras, another from Peru and three from Egypt. The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, had previously reported that the sixth of the victims was from El Salvador.

The FGR also said that it will ask for support from Interpol and the Guatemalan authorities to continue investigations into the events that led to the incident. has contacted the Guatemalan Foreign Ministry to find out its progress in this regard.

On the other hand, the government of Peru issued a release on Wednesday where he condemns the events and demands that the Mexican authorities conduct an investigation to clarify what happened. has requested comments from the foreign ministries of these countries to find out their reaction to the events.

According to information from the FGR, the Mexican Army was alerted on October 1 about the presence of armed people in an area near the border between Tapachula, Mexico, and Tecún Umán, Guatemala.

The soldiers came across three vehicles whose crew members, according to the statement, fled and shot at the soldiers. Two of the vehicles fled while in the third, a truck transport with license plates from the State of Mexico, there were 33 people, four of whom died instantly and 12 were injured. Two of them later died in hospital from their injuries.

Among the injured are citizens of Cuba, Nepal, Pakistan, India and Egypt. has contacted the embassies of these countries in Mexico to find out the arrangements regarding the injured.
