The Mexican Prosecutor’s Office receives an arrest warrant against Genaro García Luna and 60 other people for embezzlement

() — The Attorney General of the Republic of Mexico (FGR), reported this Monday through a release that he obtained from a federal control judge, arrest warrants against Genaro García Luna and 60 other people, linked to crimes of embezzlement, operations with resources of illicit origin and organized crime.

The Prosecutor’s Office added that, according to investigations, these people colluded with the then head of the Federal Public Security Secretariat, Genaro García Luna, and his partners to steal public resources from the body that manages federal prisons, which are dependent on said Secretariat.

With this action, the Prosecutor’s Office added, it seeks to channel the illicit resources that García Luna together with his partners and accomplices captured from the public sector, which is estimated to be in the amount of 1,112 million Mexican pesos.

He release It adds that the Attorney General’s Office requested a red circular for all those related to this case who have fled the country, and that it will proceed with requests for international legal assistance to obtain the return of the looted goods.

Genaro García Luna, Mexico’s Secretary of Public Security between 2006 and 2012, was found guilty of all five charges he faced in a New York trial, including several charges of participation in an ongoing criminal enterprise and conspiracy to obtain, import and distribute thousands of kilograms of cocaine in the United States, in addition to allegedly making false statements to US immigration officials.

Federal judge Brian Cogan, who is in charge of the trial in New York against García Luna for drug trafficking and other charges, admitted on Monday a defense request to postpone the reading of his sentence until September 27.
