The mayor and PSOE candidate for the upcoming elections in the city of Toledo, Milagros Tolón, thanked the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, for his “courage” for betting “on something as important as the recovery of the Tagus River” with the approval of the new basin plan. “It is a fundamental first step to change the historical trend and finally begin to recover the river in which our parents and grandparents bathed”, she stated.
“I know what this has meant for the Government”, Tolón stressed, in a party act held in the city of Toledo -in the Cigarral del Ángel-, making a veiled reference to the reluctance of the Valencian Community -governed by the PSOE- and Murcia to the new hydrological regulations for the river and what it implies in the reduction of transfer. “I am persona ‘non grata’ in Murcia”, the mayoress recalled in front of Sánchez, who demanded in the Murcian city council the end of the Tajo-Segura transfer.
On the other hand, Tolón has highlighted that the Government of Spain is making “it possible to invest more than 140 million euros” in the city of Toledo through different projects, “some already executed, others in bidding and others committed ”. “How can we not welcome you with open arms? The more you give us, the better we are going to receive you”, the mayoralty candidate also transferred to the Prime Minister.
In this sense, he recalled different actions such as the start of the Vega Baja recovery project, the drainage works on the TO-23 after the DANA, the tender for the third lane between Santa Bárbara and the Polígono, to the arrangement of the Transparent de la Cathedral or the exchange of land in La Peralada for the construction of the future Civil Guard barracks, which Pedro Sánchez also referred to in his speech.
Social housing in Palomarejos
The president has returned the praise to the mayoress, declared a ‘sanchista’ in the PSOE, noting that she is going to “win the elections” because she has defended “what the majority of Toledo thinks” so that the regional capital is “an inclusive city and more sustainable”. “You have worked like no city council so that the unemployment rate is lower than you found it,” Sánchez told him, who alluded in his speech to “the great reform” that the Palomarejos neighborhood is going to have, which has ended to pronounce between doubts in case he had quoted it correctly.
Sánchez recalled that there are two buildings of the General Treasury of Social Security -the old hospital and the School of Nursing- and has defended that Tolón is going to “make green corridors, a student residence and is going to promote subsidized housing for young people” in this neighborhood of the city for which a new urban plan -Nuevo Palomarejos- was presented precisely a few weeks ago.
“You will revalidate the mayoralty by absolute majority”
For his part, the Provincial Secretary of the PSOE of Toledo, Álvaro Gutiérrez, who started the act, has assured that Tolón “will not only revalidate the mayoralty” but that, “out of merit”, he will do so “with an absolute majority”. “I can’t find any reason why the people who voted for us four years ago shouldn’t do it again. We have turned to the citizens and to all sectors”, has endorsed the mayor of Escalona and president of the Provincial Council.
In his speech, Gutiérrez has also made reference to the “bad day” that in his opinion the president of the PP in the region and candidate for the Presidency of the Board, Paco Núñez, is suffering, who has admitted that he spent inflated mileage expenses for ” administrative error”. “This land needs commitment, seriousness, responsibility and honesty… when the citizens were having a really bad time, the president of the PP was charging allowances for kilometers that he did not do”, he has made ugly.
Both Álvaro Gutiérrez and Milagros Tolón became hosts for the President of the Government of Spain. Pedro Sánchez participated in a pre-campaign act in a well-known Toledo cigarral in which he has dedicated a part of his speech to the housing policies of his Executive. “We are going to turn a problem into a right, they tell us that it is a ghost”, alluding to the new Housing Law. “It’s that they don’t give one.”
The president assured that “today housing in our country is a real problem, especially for young people. It is about turning it into the fifth pillar of the Welfare State. In a right ”, and among other issues he referred to“ urban actions ”to rehabilitate housing. “Also here in Toledo, which affect half a million homes in our country.”
“We left behind the neoliberal model of response to the financial crisis of 2008” and asserted that the PSOE “manages the economy better than the right because we do not defend the particular interest of those above but the general interest.”
Then he addressed the mayoress of Toledo, Milagros Tolón, in an act that was not attended by the regional president Emiliano García-Page, traveling today in Brussels. “Milagros, I am convinced that you are going to win the elections because you have defended what the majority thinks, because you have defended an inclusive city and because you have put vulnerable groups at the center.”
For sustainable tourism
He also congratulated the mayoress on her employment policies. “You have put resources, more than any other council, to lower the unemployment rate” and at this point she assured that the Government of Spain will support the municipalities. In the case of the capital of Castilla-La Mancha with seven million euros for tourism. “It has to be sustainable.”
Sánchez concluded by assuring that “in Castilla-La Mancha there was a right that did not believe in the benefits of self-government to distribute and that not everything was concentrated in Madrid” and he was convinced of the electoral victory. “We have seen the right show doubts, we are going to win the elections in Toledo, in Castilla-La Mancha and in Spain.”
