The latest stage of Nintendo Switch is based on nostalgia and intergenerational affection
From 2017, the year the Switch was launched on the market, until 2023, the majority of titles that the company developed were original. However, in the first half of 2024 the strategy has been based on remakes of games released in the past for other platforms, such as Another Code: Recollection, Mario vs Donkey Kong, Paper Mario. The Millennial Gate and Luigi’s Mansion 2.
In this regard, Van Zyll declares that it is a decision based on the different audiences of the brand, since the players do not have a single age. Rather, adults who played with a Nintendo console in their childhood are now passing that pleasure on to their children and they also deserve the opportunity to play titles that were released 20 years ago.
“There are always new opportunities because every year there is a new generation of children and families. So we know that in that sense the work is never finished, because we seek to bring those improved games.” says the executive.
Following the announcement of the Nintendo Switch successor, the company anticipated shipping approximately 13.5 million units during the current period, in contrast to 15.7 million units sold the previous year.
Additionally, a 39% reduction in net profit is forecast for next year, accompanied by a projected 19% decline in revenue. And since its peak in 2021, sales of Switch consoles have experienced a marked decrease.
However, the console, which has been on the market for almost a decade, has recorded more than 125 million units sold, and is currently the second best-selling home console of all time, only behind the PlayStation 2, which sold 155 million units.
