‘The Lord of the Rings’ will have new films: Warner stands up to Amazon with more Tolkien adaptations

Warner Bros. Discovery wants you to ‘The Lord of the rings‘ have more than one new movie. This move may not go unnoticed at the Amazon offices, which is pushing ‘The Rings of Power’ based on the works of JRR Tolkien on its Prime Video platform.

The American news and entertainment conglomerate has just taken an important step towards achieving its ambitious plan. According to Varietyits CEO, David Zaslav, has announced that an agreement has been reached with the film rights holders, Embracer Group.

There will be more than one ‘Lord of the Rings’ movie

Warner Bros. Discovery doesn’t mess around. The announcement has come accompanied by some interesting details. First of all he talks about “multiple” movies. Although we do not know the exact amount, they make it clear that it will not be a single film work.

And, as if that were not enough, they have also said that these new projects will be developed through their own New Line Cinema label, so the plans of the powerful company behind Discovery+, HBO Max, and other media and platforms seem to go seriously.

The truth is that, if things are done right again, the company has a great chance of guaranteed success. The trilogy directed by Peter Jackson became a blockbuster which grossed some $3 billion worldwide and received an avalanche of awards.

Consequently, this bet by Warner Bros. Discovery is not surprising. However, as we mentioned above, it should be noted that Amazon owns the television rights to adapt Tokien’s works. The latter has spent 450 million in the first season of the series.
