The left presents a motion of censure against the Government of French Prime Minister Michel Barnier

MADRID 4 Oct. () –

The left-wing coalition New Popular Front (NFP) presented this Friday a motion of censure against the Government of French Prime Minister Michel Barnier, days after he presented his political ‘roadmap’ to the National Assembly.

France Insoumise (LFI) has indicated in a statement that one of the main reasons for presenting the motion, signed by 192 deputies, is that the existence of Barnier’s Government “in its composition and orientation is a denial of the result of the last elections legislative”.

“The President of the Republic (Emmanuel Macron) has finally preferred to hide behind a supposed ‘institutional stability’ to break with this republican tradition and end up appointing a prime minister who is a member of a political party that lost the elections,” he noted, alluding to to Barnier, of the Republicans.

Likewise, he has criticized the ‘roadmap’ proposed by the Prime Minister, with the focus on the “completely repressive policy” embodied by the new Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, “and the announced toughening of the immigration law.” .

“The refusal to review the unfair and ineffective tax reductions of previous budgets, as well as the multiplication of budget cuts in essential public policies, lead our country to unsustainable fiscal stagnation and damage our social model,” he added.

The French Prime Minister avoided asking for a vote of confidence from the Chamber on Tuesday in what was his first major speech before the National Assembly, given that he does not currently have an absolute majority to carry it out.
