Oct. 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Lebanese Army defended this Tuesday that it is “fulfilling its responsibilities” in the face of the “barbaric” attacks by Israel, which last week began a new invasion of the country after nearly a year of fighting with the Shiite militia party Hezbollah. .

Thus, he indicated in a statement published on his account on the social network which has confirmed its deployment “throughout the territory, including the southern border.”

In this sense, it has shown its willingness to “protect Lebanon” and “adhere to resolution 1701” of the United Nations Security Council, in “close coordination” with the UN Interim Force for Lebanon (UNIFIL), while has denounced “the deaths, injuries and great destruction” due to the attacks by Israel.

For this reason, he has denounced the “campaigns of defamation, slander and betrayal” against the Lebanese Armed Forces by “some media” and has stated that he “will not participate in debates” about the operational situation, given that “the priority is to protect the institution, maintain its cohesion, stop aggression and support citizens.

“Experience has shown that the Army is the institution that constitutes the backbone of Lebanon and the guarantee for all Lebanese, which confirms the importance of mobilization around it while awaiting the success of international efforts to stop the Israeli aggression as soon as possible,” he argued.

“The Army remains united by the determination, faith and will of its soldiers, and the unity of the Lebanese around its unifying role. What is needed today is to preserve national unity to preserve Lebanon, which will overcome this terrible experience how it has overcome crises and challenges in the past,” he concluded.

To date, the Lebanese Army has not been involved in fighting with Israel and has only responded once to an Israeli bombing last week that resulted in the death of a soldier. However, to date several soldiers have been killed in Israeli attacks, without the troops having reacted to these other incidents.

The statement was published hours after the Israeli Army announced the deployment of another division in Lebanese territory, increasing to four those involved in the invasion of Lebanon, described by Israel as a “selective and limited” operation against “objectives.” terrorists and infrastructure” of Hezbollah.

The offensive was launched after nearly two weeks of intensified attacks and has been paralleled by an intensification of bombings against the capital, Beirut, and other areas of the country. Lebanese authorities have reported more than 2,000 deaths from Israeli attacks over the past year, while thousands of people have been injured and nearly 1.2 million have been forced to flee their homes.

The resurgence in hostilities is part of the clashes for nearly a year, after Hezbollah attacked Israeli territory a day after the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions. , which led Israel to unleash a bloody offensive against the Gaza Strip.
