22 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The leader of the Guinean military junta, Mamady Doumbouya, has assured that the military “will organize the transition, but will not participate in the subsequent period”, while defending the need to achieve a “strong” Constitution to resolve the political crisis. in the country.

“We have said from the beginning that we are going to organize the transition, but we will not be part of the post-transition period. For us, this is clear and it should be so,” he stressed, according to the Guinean news portal Media Guinée.

Thus, he has asked to “reflect” on the drafting of the new Constitution and has argued that “a badly made Constitution leads to retaking everything.” “We do not want to resume the transition because we know very well that our country needs tranquility and not a permanent transition period,” she stressed.

“I want us to be able to reflect to put in place a strong Constitution adapted to our needs. As we said on September 5 (2021, the date of the coup d’état against the then president, Alpha Condé), it is important that Guineans be able to rewrite their Constitution, that is not written by a person and made to measure or to the measure of a political party or a politician”, he said.

For this reason, he stressed that “it is not about taking the Constitution next door and photocopying it.” “It is about, as a soldier, finding the solution when there is a problem”, he has specified, while he has pointed out that the new Magna Carta “must be useful to future generations”. “We are going to disappear. What will remain and resist time is our country”, he has settled.

The National Committee for Reconciliation and Development (CNRD) –official name of the board– was formed in the African country after the coup against Condé after months of political crisis in the country due to Condé’s decision to modify the Constitution to run for a third term and his victory in the 2020 presidential elections, in which the rest of the candidates denounced fraud.
