The leader of the far-right Reconquista, Éric Zemmour, announced this Wednesday the expulsion of his ‘number two’, the vice president of the party Marion Maréchal, after she tried to negotiate an alliance with the National Rally (AN) of Marine Le Pen in the face of to the legislative elections at the end of June.

“Marion Maréchal, Guillaume Peltier, Nicolas Bay and Laurence Trochu have been excluded from our movement, Reconquista,” he said in a message on the social network AN president, Jordan Bardella, a possible coalition.

The meeting between the two, however, ended without an agreement because the party led by Le Pen rejected any type of link with Zemmour. “It saddens me to have to comment on these internal disputes at a time when our country is dying,” added the leader of Reconquista on the aforementioned social network.

Zemmour has also said he feels “disgusted and hurt” by the actions of his ‘number two’. “Just 48 hours after being elected by 1.3 million Reconquista voters, she has chosen to sell our party,” he concluded.

Maréchal has indicated on the social network Emmanuel Macron, with the aim of “saving” the country.

For her part, Le Pen has applauded the “brave” position of Maréchal, who has called to vote for AN. “Given the seriousness of the problems, Marion Maréchal chose, in the exceptional context that the country is experiencing, to prioritize the national interest over partisan considerations,” he added on the aforementioned social network.

The vice president of Reconquista had published a letter on her social networks along with other members of her party – those cited by Zemmour – in which she acknowledged having “tried everything” so that Reconquista could be represented in the coalition outlined by AN and the which the leader of Los Republicanos, Eric Ciotti, has joined against his own party, which expelled him this Wednesday.
