The Ministry of Health condemns the “continued attacks” of the paramilitaries against “civilians and health institutions”
Dec. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The last hospital that remained operational in the Sudanese city of El Fasher, capital of the province of North Darfur (west), has been out of service due to a new attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), in the framework of the war unleashed in April 2023 in the African country.
Medical sources cited by the Sudan Tribune news portal have indicated that the Saudi Hospital, which provided surgical and emergency services in the city, “will not be able to receive more patients due to the repeated attacks by the RSF with artillery and drones.”
Thus, they explained that the majority of the patients had been forced to flee the place due to the attacks, heading to the Zamzam displaced persons camp, also attacked on several occasions in recent weeks, and the nearby town of Tauila.
The Sudanese Ministry of Health has condemned the “continued attacks against civilians, health institutions and personnel” and has accused the RSF of deliberately trying to destroy health services in El Fasher, the scene of a paramilitary siege for several months.
The United Nations denounced last week that more than 780 civilians have died due to the “horrible siege” imposed by the RSF against El Fasher and its attacks against the town, before calling on the group to end the blockade and warning that all parties to the conflict could be committing war crimes.
The war between the Army and the RSF broke out in April 2023 due to strong disagreements regarding the integration process of the paramilitary group – now declared terrorist – within the Armed Forces, a situation that caused the derailment of the open transition after the overthrow of Omar Hasan al Bashir’s regime in 2019.
