The Last of Us Season 2 will be faithful to the game; the first episode is already written

Season 2 of The Last of Us will not be the end

Earlier this year, the series of The Last of Us surprised locals and strangers. Due to its success, HBO has greenlit the production of Season 2. Details about the new batch of episodes are scarce, but Craig Mazin, writer and showrunner of the television show, spoke about the status of the project and what the fans can wait.

Is The Last of Us Season 2 still on?

Although everything was going smoothly, the development of the second season of the show inspired by the Naughty Dog video game came to an abrupt halt due to the writers’ strike. Before the closing of activities, Craig Mazin confirmed in an interview with the media Deadline that he managed to write and send the first chapter.

Because production is on hiatus, the creative is limited to writing in his mind. He is hopeful that the strike ends with a favorable outcome and that they can get on with the work to ensure that Season 2 debuts as originally scheduled.

Season 2 of The Last of Us will not be the end

“Now I just walk around and write with my brain, I guess. I go for a walk and I think about the scenes because when the bell rings and this is over because the companies finally came to their senses, I’m going to have to push myself because we really want to try to get this show on the air when it’s supposed to go on, “said the writer from the HBO show.

Although Craig Mazin is optimistic and hopeful that the second season of The Last of Us will be able to resume activities soon and will hit screens in 2025, he is aware that the strike could cause the studio to make adjustments to its release schedule.

“We all want to go back to work; I think everyone who actually does the work, including our contacts, wants this fixed. So I cross my fingers,” said the American showrunner.

The second season of The Last of Us will be faithful to the video game, but there will be changes

In the talk, Craig Mazin confirmed that Halley Gross, the co-writer who worked with Neil Druckmann on the controversial The Last of Us: Part II, joined the project. He also revealed that the scriptwriter Bo Shim got on the boat.

The creative revealed that Season 2 will be very faithful to the video game, and even indicated that there are certain aspects that will be “exactly like in the game.” That said, he says the HBO adaptation team will also come up with their own ideas, similar to what happened with the first season.

“We are going to do other things that are in the game and we are going to do some others that are also there but we will do them differently with our own method. It doesn’t matter if they played the game or not; they will be surprised as the season unfolds. We have some interesting twists,” said the screenwriter.
