The landslide on Thursday in the center-west of India already leaves 25 dead and around a hundred missing

July 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least 25 people have died and around a hundred are missing after the huge landslide that occurred last Thursday in the Indian state of Maharashtra, in the center-west of the country, while rescue services work against time and in the midst of inclement weather to find survivors.

The local head of the Indian People’s Party, the government formation, Girish Mahajan confirmed this Saturday the provisional number of victims in a balance that could increase in the next few hours given that the rescue tasks are currently stopped due to the resumption of heavy rains that hit Irshalwadi, the scene of the tragedy.

“There were some 2,500 families living in Irshalwadi. More than 100 people are missing. I fear that we are going to end up exceeding a hundred dead,” he made known in statements collected by the ‘Hindustan Times’.

The incessant rainfall has caused the closure of schools and left roads flooded in the state. The India Meteorological Department has declared a “red alert” for the Raigad region for extremely heavy rainfall.
