June 17 () –
The Kosovo authorities have partially terminated at the end of this Friday the three days of restrictions on the passage of vehicles coming from Serbia in the midst of the last crisis opened this week between Pristina and Belgrade due to the arrest of three Kosovar Albanian policemen by the Serb forces after allegedly crossing the border.
Pristina responded to these arrests by first accusing Belgrade of kidnapping the agents, and then by preventing Serb vehicles from entering the north of the territory, where Kosovar Serbs are in the majority. The NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, has declared itself incapable of resolving the exact circumstances of what happened.
The arrest of the three agents is the latest episode of years and years of crisis whose latest rise began first with a conflict over the vehicle registration process and has escalated over time until reaching a new peak after the elections. premises in northern Kosovo, anticipated due to the en bloc resignation of the Kosovar Serb mayors in rejection of the Pristina government.
The elections were resolved, obviously, with the victory of Kosovar Albanian mayors who have been rejected by the local population in the form of clashes even with KFOR itself.
At the moment, and according to the RTS chain, the Kosovo authorities have readmitted the circulation of personal vehicles through the Jarinje pass — albeit under stricter controls –, while the entry of transport is becoming more complicated. The trucks, according to the chain, have spent their third night parked at the Merdar, Jarinje and Konculje passes.
