The kings of Spain visit Croatia for the first time since its independence in 1991. The country’s president, Zoran Milanovic, and his wife welcomed them in front of the presidential residence in the capital, Zagreb.
After their arrival at the airport in the Croatian capital accompanied by the Spanish Minister of Science, Diana Morant, Felipe VI and Queen Letizia moved to the Presidential Palace, where they were received by Milanovic and his wife, Sanja Music, in the middle of the rain.
Felipe VI and Milanovic exchanged impressions on the state of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which this year celebrate their 30th anniversary, and on community policy, with a view to the rotating presidency that Spain will hold in the second half of 2023.
In addition, both leaders are expected to participate this Thursday in the Ifmif-Dones scientific-business forum with the aim of reinforcing the project to install the Ifmif-Dones particle accelerator in the town of Escúzar (Granada), whose objective is to experiment with materials that would withstand nuclear fusion.
