March 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Kenyan National Police has declared this Sunday as illegal the great protest this coming Monday called by the opposition leader Raila Odinga in a fight against the Government after declaring as fraudulent the elections last year that ended with the victory of his great political rival, the current president of the country, William Ruto.
Odinga promised last week that Monday’s march in Nairobi, whose route remains unannounced less than 24 hours after the rally, would be “the mother of all protests” and the culmination of demonstrations in recent days, although It is expected to provide the details of it over the next few hours.
Sources close to Odinga hint that the march could go through the financial center of the Kenyan capital, which would force the forced closure of dozens of businesses and shops in the face of possible disturbances.
Thus, the commander of the Nairobi National Police, Adamson Bungei, announced this Sunday in a statement that tomorrow’s call “fails to meet the requirements of the Public Order Law” because its organizers, Odinga in this case, has not warned of the specific route of the march with the three days in advance required, according to a statement collected by the newspaper ‘The Nation’.
The Police have announced a strong deployment that will restrict access to various institutional venues in the country, including the state Parliament, where the demonstration could end.
The protests take place after the end of Odinga’s ultimatum to the country’s president, William Ruto, to present the data of the electoral servers during the August elections of last year.
The elections ended up being decided by the country’s Supreme Court with an opinion unanimously supported by the seven magistrates that make up the court, but Odinga has categorically rejected the verdict and, over the months, has also accused Ruto of inability to time to contain the rise in prices and to “smother all Kenyans in taxes”.
