The ultranationalist Smotrich sees the agreement as “the greatest test” for an Israeli government
Nov. 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of Israel, Isaac Herzog, has welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, a decision he considers “correct and important”, but has warned “(his) enemies” that the Jewish State will defend itself “at any anytime, anywhere and in any way.
“The fundamental test of the ceasefire agreement (…) will be its full implementation, guaranteeing the security of all residents of northern Israel. The decision of the Israeli Security Cabinet to approve the truce is correct and important, but it must be clear: the State of Israel will defend its citizens at any time, anywhere and in any way,” he stated on his X social network account.
At the same time, Herzog has warned Israel’s “enemies” that it is “united” in the “fight” to protect the entire nation and ensure the safety of its citizens.
Likewise, the president has encouraged the Israeli Government of Benjamin Netanyahu to direct “all (its) efforts” in rescuing the 101 hostages who still remain in the Gaza Strip. “We must act on this matter with the utmost urgency!” he said.
In line with the prime minister’s statements, Herzog thanked his American counterpart, Joe Biden, and his administration for working “tirelessly” to achieve the agreement and for their “unwavering” support for Israel.
The Minister of Finance, Bezalel Smotrich, has also expressed himself positively on this matter. In a brief message on social networks, the ultranationalist has defended his support for the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon because “(his) demands to establish the necessary conditions for this (compliance) in the body of the resolution have been accepted.”
Despite this, the ultranationalist politician has warned that this truce is “the greatest test of the current Israeli Government” and “perhaps one of the greatest tests of Israeli governments in general”, claiming that the country’s security is at stake.
“If we fulfill it, we will guarantee the security of Israel forever. (…) I will be there on guard, for you, until victory and the restoration of security,” he assured.
