The Israeli parliament approves by a large majority a resolution rejecting the creation of the Palestinian State

Lawmakers believe that it would pose an “existential danger” for the country and “perpetuate” the conflict

Jul 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli parliament voted on Wednesday by a large majority for a resolution rejecting the creation of a Palestinian state, even through negotiations, considering that it would pose an “existential danger” for the country and would “perpetuate” the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

“The Knesset of Israel firmly opposes the creation of a Palestinian state west of Jordan. The establishment of a Palestinian state in the heart of the land of Israel will pose an existential danger to the State of Israel and its citizens, perpetuate the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and destabilize the region,” the resolution reads.

The vote was 68 in favor — parties in the government coalition, right-wing and centrist opposition parties and even the Hadash Ta’al coalition, made up of socialists and Arab Israelis — against nine votes against, although lawmakers from the leftist Yesh Atid party walked out, The Times of Israel reported.

The MPs justified their decision by their fear that the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) would seize power in a future Palestinian state to turn it into “a base of radical Islamic terror” working in “coordination” with Iran to destroy Israel.

“Promoting the idea of a Palestinian state at this time will be a reward for terrorism and will only encourage Hamas and its supporters to see this as a victory, thanks to the massacre of October 7, 2023, and a prelude to the takeover of jihadist Islam in the Middle East,” the letter continued.

It is worth noting that last February the Israeli Parliament also voted by a large majority to reject the “unilateral recognition” of the Palestinian State.
