MADRID Dec. 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, reprimanded this Wednesday the main military spokesman, Daniel Hagari, for exceeding his powers by criticizing the Feldstein law, which allows confidential information to be provided to the political authorities.
“The IDF does not criticize legislators, but rather presents its position to the political leadership through accepted mechanisms,” the Israeli Army has stated on its official profile on social networks, where it has stressed that Hagari “exceeded his authority” by positioning himself. about a law.
Shortly after this public reprimand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement in which he valued the IDF’s decision, as it will help ensure that the military spokesman does not exceed the limit again. “It is good that the IDF spokesperson has been put in his place to ensure that such a statement is never heard again,” he said.
“In a democratic country, the military should not interfere in political affairs, much less criticize legislation,” Netanyahu said in a writing reported by the local newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.
The Feldstein law would make it impossible for military personnel and other members of the defense leadership to be prosecuted for providing classified information without authorization to the prime minister or the minister of defense.
