The Iranian Army has informed that the ground, air and naval forces will carry out military exercises during the night of this Thursday in Jask, east of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the main transit routes for oil and gas transport vessels. .
Army Deputy Commander for Coordination Affairs, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayari, has stated that the joint exercises are aimed at improving the capabilities of the Iranian Army, creating “synergies” and increasing combat readiness as well as deterrence power. according to the IRNA news agency.
Sayari explained at a press conference that infantry units, armored and mechanized units of the land forces or air defense, among others, will participate in the maneuvers, the duration of which he has not specified.
Tehran criticized Washington in the military exercises carried out last year near Hormuz for causing a “dangerous” situation after firing at several Iranian speedboats that approached a US Coast Guard vessel while it was carrying out escort duties for a submarine. .
According to Washington, the Iranian vessels displayed “aggressive behavior” as they approached the ship within approximately 137 meters, after which it fired 30 times with a 50-millimeter machine gun as an emergency signal.
For its part, the Revolutionary Guard rejected these implications by the United States and stressed that Iranian waters are a “red line”, for which Tehran would respond “consistently” against any violation of them.
