The immoral blockade against Cuba is an act of economic warfare in peacetime, accuses the Cuban foreign minister

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba said this Wednesday in the plenary session of the UN General Assembly that the US blockade against his country, which began more than six decades ago, intensified “extremely to unprecedented levels” since 2019 and during the pandemic.

“Thirty years after the first resolution of this Assembly against the blockade, the government of The United States continues to ignore your almost unanimous demand to end your illegal policy and cruel against Cuba”, pointed out Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla in his speech in the high-level segment of the general debate of the deliberative body.

The foreign minister affirmed that the desire to generate scarcity, suffering, discouragement and dissatisfaction and cause harm to the Cuban people still persists.

He explained that the United States government pressures other governments, banking institutions and companies from around the world interested in establishing relations with Cuba, in addition to “obsessively” pursuing all sources of forex income of the island to bring about its economic collapse.

Cruel and immoral blockade

“As a result, in effect, the Cuban economy has experienced extraordinary pressures that are manifested in the industry, the provision of services, the shortage of food and medicine, and the deterioration of the level of consumption and well-being general population,” he said.

Rodríguez Parrilla added that the human damage that this policy generates to all Cuban families is as impossible to quantify as “huge, cruel and immoral”.

“The blockade it is an act of war economy in peacetime,” he asserted.

The head of Cuban international relations accused the United States of maintaining in force the most aggressive pressure measures against Cuba adopted by President Donald Trump during his administration as head of the country.

Likewise, he pointed out that the inclusion of Cuba in the “arbitrary and unilateral” list of countries that the United States qualifies as sponsors of terrorism hinders transactions and credit possibilities.

Cuba has been a victim of state terrorism and does not promote terrorism nor will it ever do so, he assured.

In this sense, accused the United States of opportunistic manipulation sensitive concepts such as terrorism, religion, democracy, justice, corruption and human rights.

Despite these adverse factors, Cuba has resisted and is willing to move forward towards a better understanding and cooperation with the United States based on mutual respect, the foreign minister said.

Cuba defeated the pandemic with its own resources

Rodríguez Parrilla asserted, on the other hand, that the Cubans do not give up their efforts to continue building a fairer socialist societydemocratic, prosperous and sustainable.

He also stressed that despite the pressure, the Caribbean nation defeated the pandemic “with resources, its own vaccines and the strength of our public health and science system.”

Realistic solution to the war in Ukraine

With regard to armed conflicts in the world, he warned that the United States’ offensive to subjugate countries and subject them to its imperial order, added to the expansion of NATO and fifth-generation warfare, lead to a climate of tensions with unpredictable consequences.

Before concluding, Cuba advocated a “serious, constructive and realistic” diplomatic solution to the war in Ukrainein accordance with international law and that guarantees the security and sovereignty of all.

“Cuba will continue to reject domination and hegemonism, unilateral coercive measures, genocidal blockades and the claim to impose a unique culture and model on the world. We will never give up the defense of independence, sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples without interference or foreign intervention”, he concluded.
