The International Association of Political Consultants (IAPC) has awarded the 2024 Democracy Medal to the Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, for her long decades of fight for democracy in her country. This award is decided by the voting of its members, prominent consultants from the five continents.

Since 1982, the IAPC has been a pioneer in awarding an organization or individual who, in the judgment of its members, has worked courageously to foster, promote and sustain the democratic process anywhere in the world through the Democracy Medal, the first international award of its kind.

The Democracy Medal was first awarded at the 1982 IAPC Berlin Conference to Lech Walesa, Polish Solidarity leader. Since then, winners have included various leaders, including former President Bill Clinton, leaders of the Hong Kong Umbrella Movement, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“The 2024 Medal is the 44th year that the IAPC has awarded individual politicians and leaders, political organizations and political movements who defend democracy, often at their own personal risk,” said Feyi Akindoyeni, Vice President of Awards.

“María Corina Machado is awarded for her brave fight to restore freedom and democracy in Venezuela. In their efforts for a just, free and peaceful political transition, they have fearlessly defended the values ​​that millions of Venezuelans and the IAPC hold so dear: justice, democracy and the rule of law,” said the president of the association, Carlos Fara. .

Founded in Paris in 1968, the IAPC is a global professional association of political consultants dedicated to advancing democracy around the world. Through its annual conference, held each November in a different city, views and information on political developments and campaign techniques are exchanged.

The presentation of the aforementioned award will take place in the city of Toronto, Canada, on November 10, within the framework of the Association’s Annual World Conference.
