The United States reports that a sailor was seriously injured during the attack on the ship ‘Verbena’

June 13. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility this Thursday for a series of attacks carried out with drones and missiles against three ships sailing through the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea in retaliation for the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.

The spokesman for Yemen’s Houthi rebels, Yahya Sari, has indicated in a statement that one of the ships hit is the ‘Verbena’, which was sailing in the waters of the Arabian Sea, while the other two would be the ‘SeaGuardian’ and the ‘ Athina’.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed in a statement that the Houthis have launched two cruise missiles that have hit the Polish-operated, Ukrainian-owned and Palau-flagged cargo ship ‘Verbena’.

“The ‘M/V Verbena’ reported damage and subsequent fires on board. The crew continues to fight the fire. One civilian sailor was seriously injured during the attack. An aircraft from the cruiser USS Philippine Sea evacuated the injured man to a nearby partner ship for receive medical attention,” he indicated.

Washington has recalled that this “reckless behavior” by the Houthis, backed by Iran, “threatens regional stability and endangers the lives of sailors in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.”

The Houthis, who control the most populated areas of Yemen, have launched attacks against Israeli territory and against ships that they attribute some type of relationship with the country as a result of the offensive unleashed against Gaza after the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

Likewise, they have attacked American and British ships and other strategic assets in response to the bombings of these countries against Yemen in an intervention that Washington and London base on their desire to guarantee the safety of navigation in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
