The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, Mark Milley, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valeri Gerasimov, held a telephone conversation on Monday with Ukraine as the main topic.
A Pentagon spokesman, Dave Butler, has reported that Milley and Gerasimov have discussed various security issues and have agreed to keep the lines of communication open.
“In accordance with previous practices, the details of their conversation will be kept private,” Butler said, according to the US network .
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and his American counterpart, Lloyd Austin, already had a conversation on Sunday, in what was the second call between the two in the previous three days.
Russia has accused Ukraine of preparing a dirty bomb attack to cause nuclear contamination. Both kyiv and its US allies have rejected these accusations after Shoigu spoke to other great power defense ministers to warn them.
