MADRID 5 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The head of the Ugandan Army and eldest son of the country’s president, General Muhoozi Kaunerugaba, has protested against the recent contacts between the US ambassador to the country, William Popp, with elements of the opposition to the president, Yoweri Museveni and demanded the diplomat to apologize for what the military officer described as an act of interventionism.
“My fellow Ugandans, it is my solemn duty to announce to everyone that as a nation we are about to have a serious confrontation with the current US ambassador to our country for disrespecting our beloved and celebrated president and for undermining the constitution of Uganda,” the soldier said on his social network account X.
A second message, even more drastic, gave the ambassador an ultimatum until next Monday at 09:00 to apologize or else he would be ordered to leave the country for his “undiplomatic behavior.”
Although the general later deleted both messages, throughout Friday he dedicated himself to reposting the information from Ugandan media that echoed them.
In addition to these contacts, the United States has sanctioned four officials of the Ugandan security forces for acts of repression against opposition supporters, especially supporters of Robert Kyagulanyi, the musical artist popularly known in the country as Bobi Wine.
