“We urge the Secretary-General to expedite the appointment of a permanent envoy to Libya, accompanied by an extension of the mandate of the mission (UNSMIL) by the Security Council for a period sufficient for national elections to be held,” he said. one week before the end of the mandate.

Likewise, he has stated through his profile on the social network

CENTRAL BANK

This week the Parliament based in the east of the country has approved the appointment of the six members of the Board of Governors of the Central Bank, in line with the agreement signed a month ago by the two administrations facing each other after new tensions that included a blockade of oil fields by the militias that affected the oil export capacity, the country’s main source of income.

The United States Government has joined UNSMIL in celebrating the appointment of the board of directors, highlighting that “this is a fundamental step to strengthen the governance of the Central Bank and its credibility before the international financial community.” “The independence and technocratic integrity of the bank are vital to the stability and prosperity of Libya. Libya’s main technocratic institutions should not be politicized or subjected to pressure,” said the US Embassy in Tripoli through the social network .

Libya is divided into two administrations after the House of Representatives terminated the mandate of Abdul Hamid Dbeibé due to the postponement of the presidential elections in December 2021 and appointed Fazi Bashaga to the position, later suspended from office and replaced by Osama Hamad. Dbeibé rejected the decision and chose to remain in office until elections were held.
