MADRID Dec. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The head of the Central Command of the United States Armed Forces (CENTCOM), Michael Kurilla, addressed this Saturday the latest events in Syria with the head of the Israeli Army, Herzi Halevi, during a visit to the country that lasts only a few days after he visited US troops in Syria.
As CENTCOM has explained, the meeting has also served to address “other issues of a strategic nature” for the parties, as well as the “threats” that continue to exist in the region.
“Leaders have discussed a variety of issues, including readiness for upcoming challenges,” CENTCOM said in a statement.
Kurilla has recently been to countries such as Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan to analyze the situation in the region. In Iraq, he addressed bilateral relations with the country’s authorities earlier this week, in addition to the “rapidly changing” situation in Syria and the operations launched to defeat the Islamic State terrorist group.
The United States Government has asked Israel to maintain frequent contacts with Washington to address the situation in Syria after the fall of Bashar al Assad’s regime due to a lightning offensive carried out by rebel and jihadist groups.
