The head of the Burkina Faso military junta, Ibrahim Traoré, has stressed that the authorities are working “for the reconquest of the territory” and “the return of peace” in the face of the intensification of attacks by jihadist groups, including the branches regional al Qaeda and Islamic State groups.
“We will never abandon our homeland,” said the transitional president, who has asked the population to participate “sincerely” in the fight against terrorism and has highlighted the “massive” recruitment of volunteers, according to a statement published by the Burkinabe Presidency through his official account on the social network Facebook.
Traoré has also pointed out that the board is working to “find solutions to the difficulties” faced by internally displaced persons and host communities, especially with regard to access to drinking water and education.
On the other hand, it has demanded that the population be careful with “false information, hate messages and information contrary to the dynamics of the fight” on social networks and has asserted that “they are terrorists who contact terrorists”.
Traoré himself demanded last week that the Ministry of Security adopt measures to control the companies that sell satellite phones after the Army has seized several of these devices in anti-terrorist operations.
“The increase in acts of vandalism perpetrated against telephone network facilities has led to a surge in demand for satellite phones that could be profitable for terrorist groups,” he said in a letter to the ministry, according to the Burkinabe news portal Minute. .
“I urge you to take the necessary measures to control the companies that have legal documents for the purchase and sale of these devices, their destination of sale and their ability to intercept these communications to guarantee the effectiveness of security operations,” he concluded.
