July 31 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Guinean opposition formation of the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC) has denounced the arrest of its national coordinator, Foniké Mengué, in the framework of a new campaign of harassment by the coup military junta after days of violence in the country for the repression of the security forces to the demonstrations against the soldiers.
The Guinean journalist and activist was arrested at dawn from Friday to Saturday and transferred yesterday at noon to the headquarters of the high command of the gendarmerie in Kaloum, after spending a few hours in the Kalia military camp, sources from the group denounce.
The head of the FNDC, Sekou Kounduno, has denounced to Radio France Internationale what it is about “a kidnapping” and personally accused the coup leader Mahmadi Doumbuya of approving this kind of behavior in order to “repress all dissenting voices with blood” and “become in the only captain of the ship”.
It must be remembered that at least four people died and more than twenty were seriously injured on Friday during the second day of demonstrations against the military junta of General Doumbouya, leader of the National Committee for Reconciliation and Development (CNRD) – the official name of the board– was formed in the African country after the coup d’état in September 2021 against then-president Alpha Condé.
Along with Mengué, Ibrahima Diallo, the group’s operations manager, has also been arrested a few hours after the FNDC announced, at the request of the president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the suspension of the demonstrations during a week, in order to give dialogue a chance.
The Front demands the immediate release of both activists or, otherwise, it will resume demonstrations to demand both their release and the satisfaction of legitimate demands for the opening of a dialogue framework,” Koundouno warned.
