SAN SALVADOR – Guatemalan security forces are looking for Luis Mario Heredia, an alleged drug trafficker better known as “el canche Heredia,” after a video went viral in which he was seen entering a civil court with a rifle in the department of Chiquimula, in southern Guatemala.

In the video, the man takes two police officers out of the courthouse after they filed a complaint of domestic violence filed by the suspect’s partner. “Tell the commissioner that I am the canche Heredia, and that he better give me answers…”, is heard in the video.

The Minister of the Interior of that country, David Napoleón Barrientos, ordered a large-scale operation in the departments of Chiquimula, Zacapa and Petén, regions where he claims, a criminal structure to which Heredia belongs operates.

“According to investigations, Morales Heredia has ties to criminal structures that operate in the east and north of the country. (…) The elements of the Police are mobilized by air and land to find the whereabouts…”, reads a release of the Guatemalan government.

Guatemalan Police agents have surrounded at least five buildings where they presume Morales Heredia could be.

As of 4:00 pm on Tuesday, Guatemala time, the subject had not been captured.
