BERLIN Nov. 10 (DPA/EP) –
The German left-wing party Die Linke (The Left) announced this Sunday its two leaders as joint candidates for the next elections in the country after the collapse this week of the government coalition.
The co-president of the party, Jan van Aken, and the leader of the party’s parliamentary bloc, Heidi Reichinnek, will appear in “this election campaign united and as one”, announced the co-president of the party, Ines Schwerdtner, who will dedicate herself to the internal organization of the elections.
“Germany needs a strong left,” van Aken posted on the social media platform
The Left has seen its support drop after the departure last year of one of its leading figures, Sahra Wagenknecht, to form a new party under her own name. At present, it is unclear whether the party will clear the 5 percent hurdle needed to enter Parliament.
