Flix, which plans to start operations towards the first half of 2025, explained that the idea is to work with companies in the mobility sector so that they can improve the user experience, while making their operations and income more efficient by reducing costs. , like gasoline and travel times.
The company uses a platform that allows users and drivers of companies – such as ADO, Uber or Mercado Libre – to glimpse the time and cost it would take to take a route at a certain time and specific day. This means that tickets or a trip can be less expensive and more efficient for both parties.
The company feeds its platform with data on the routes used by its allies and from that is how Flix can provide predictions about the time that different travel routes would imply, either for cities or for different states of the republic.
“Mexico has a strong history and culture of bus travel that we want to contribute to. We know how complex mobility is in Mexico. There is a lot of passenger traffic from one city to another, and that is why the company sees the country as having great potential to introduce our platform to help improve the mobility experience of users,” said Carlos Magaña Campos, CEO of the company in Mexico, who highlighted that the Mexican bus market ranges between 8,000 million euros.
The TomTom Traffic Index platform highlights that Mexico City is ranked as the thirteenth most congested city, out of a list of 390 cities in 56 nations. For example, for a Mexican to travel just 10 kilometers during ‘rush hour’ means spending 25 minutes and 40 seconds in a public transportation unit or in a private car.
In addition, data from Finerio reveals that the majority of Mexicans spend an annual average of up to 5,376 pesos on mobility platforms, such as Uber.
The arrival in Mexico
The company has begun the process of forming a local team, currently consisting of 25 members, but, as the company’s landing progresses, the number of employees will increase. And although the company did not reveal the amount of investment, Flix seeks to grow the passenger transportation market, generate a significant number of jobs and contribute to the economic growth of the entire country, through the company’s business model.
“Mexico has always been interesting due to the size of the market because it is one of the three largest markets in the world in terms of passenger volume and income,” says the CEO of Flix.
The company already has experience in the national market. By acquiring Greyhound Lines, a United States bus transportation provider, in 2021, Flix has operated in the north of the country, giving them more perspective on the national mobility market, which will help the company operate nationally.
