MADRID Dec. 5 () –
The civil servants’ strike this Thursday in France, which also affects the air traffic controllers, has caused cancellations and delays at the airports in the cities of Paris, Marseille and Toulouse.
In the capital, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) yesterday, Tuesday, requested a 10% reduction in flights at the Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. today, in addition to 25% in Paris. Orly starting at 6:00 p.m.
On the other hand, half of operations in Marseille have been reduced from 6:00 p.m., while 20% fewer planes will fly at Toulouse airport throughout the day today.
In addition, the French civil authority has recommended passengers check with their airline about the status of their flight, advising them to postpone any movement.
For its part, Enaire has indicated on social networks that this protest is generating regulations at the European level with a “significant” impact on delays throughout the network. Consequently, the air navigation manager has stated that it coordinates measures with Eurocontrol to “minimize the impact.”
This movement in France comes after the announcement, at the end of October, of a government plan to combat “absenteeism” in the public service. The plan, which was supposed to save 1.2 billion euros, strained relations between the unions and the Minister of Public Service, Guillaume Kasbarian, before leading to a breakdown in social dialogue.
