The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is real: NVIDIA announces the renaming of the canceled RTX 4080 12GB

TSMC ups the ante: it will multiply its investment in the factory that will produce chips for Apple by almost four

It was a matter of time before NVIDIA channeled the failed launch of the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB. Rumors suggested that the graphics card, which was originally considered a “affordable” version of the most ambitious series of the manufacturer would end up reaching the market, but with a new name and, possibly, with a price drop.

Precisely, NVIDIA has taken advantage of its presence at CES 2023 to materialize the aforementioned hypothesis with the announcement of the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. This is a graphics card that maintains the same hardware features as the RTX 4080 12GB, but comes with a new name and in a new category due to industry response.

Goodbye RTX 4080 12GB, hello RTX 4070 Ti

The 12GB GeForce RTX 4080 converted to RTX 4070 Ti It maintains its essence, but its price drops. Customers, instead of having to pay the 1,099 euros proposed for the initial concept of the graphics card, will now be able to get it from January 5 in Spain for 909 eurosalthough of course, with the announced name change.

At the specification level we find a proposal with Ada Lovelace architecture with 7,680 CUDA cores, 192-bit memory bus, an accelerated clock frequency of 2.61 GHz and 12 GB of GDDR6X memory. At the screen resolution level, it will be able to offer 4K at 240 Hz or 8K at 60 Hz with DSC and support up to four monitors.

According to NVIDIA, the RTX 4070 Ti is ideal for those who want to game high frame rates per second at 1440p. The manufacturer says that it will be able to triple the performance of the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti with consumption close to half and offer a noticeable improvement in AAA games for owners of GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics.

The change in strategy NVIDIA began in October of last year, the month in which it announced that it had decided to “unlaunch” the RTX 4080 12 GB. The company explained in a blog post that it was not named correctly”, and “having two GPUs with the designation 4080 is confusing”. Consequently, the original model did not become commercially available.
