MADRID Dec. 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Gaza Ministry of Health reported this Saturday that the director of the hospital Kamal Aduan has been detained by the Israeli Army, which this past Friday assaulted what was the last operational medical center in the north of the Gaza Strip.
“The occupation forces have arrested Dr. Hosam Abu Safiya, director of the Kamal Aduan Hospital,” the Gaza ministry said in a brief statement on its Telegram account.
Previously, the Ministry of Health reported that “dozens” of employees of the medical center were interrogated by the Israeli Army during the operation, undertaken according to Israel to eliminate Hamas militiamen hiding in the facilities.
The Gaza Ministry of Health has rejected this argument and denounced that Israel has been carrying out an operation for weeks specifically aimed at suspending the hospital’s activities.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated yesterday Friday that some 60 health workers and 25 patients in critical condition have remained at the center, including those who are connected to respirators. Palestinian medical sources have indicated that the hospital has burned in several areas but Israel has replied that only “a small fire” occurred in the place, now under control, according to Israeli military sources to the ‘Times of Israel’.
The WHO denounces in any case that the assault on the Kamal Aduan has occurred in the midst of “access restrictions for the WHO and its collaborators” and that the hostilities “are destroying all our efforts and support to maintain the minimum operation of the center ” in what he interpreted as “a systematic dismantling of the health system in Gaza that represents a death sentence for tens of thousands of Palestinians.”
