May 18. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The member countries of the G7 plan to approve a new round of economic sanctions against Russia within the framework of the leaders’ summit in Hiroshima (Japan), in which the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, will participate electronically.
The leaders of Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the European Union will hold a summit in Hiroshima this weekend focused once again on the situation in Ukraine and possible measures to be taken against Russia.
Thus, in statements to the press before the first meeting, scheduled for Friday, a US official has acknowledged that the latest efforts by the G7 are aimed at interrupting Russia’s ability to obtain war materials, according to Sky News.
In addition, the leaders have set themselves the goal of closing legal loopholes that Russia exploits to circumvent sanctions, further reducing international dependence on Russian energy, and limiting Moscow’s access to the international financial system.
