The G7 asks Iran to stop the "persecution of women and girls" after the strong protests

BERLIN, Oct. 14 (DPA/EP) –

Those responsible for Equality and Women’s Affairs of the G7 have asked this Friday to stop the violence and “persecution of women and girls” as soon as possible in the framework of the strong protests that have taken place in the country following the death of Masha Amini while in police custody.

The German Minister for Women’s Affairs, Lisa Paus, has called for an end to these actions and has stressed that “women’s rights are human rights.” “The Iranian authorities are obliged to guarantee the equal enjoyment of these rights for all human beings within the framework of International Law.”

Thus, the governments have indicated in a statement released after a meeting in Berlin that the Iranian government must “end all forms of repression against all Iranians, especially women and girls.”

In this sense, they have reaffirmed their commitment to a world in which gender equality prevails and have addressed the idea of introducing equality policies. “Gender equality is a universal human right and a fundamental value of democratic societies. However, in many parts of the world, women still have to fight to achieve this right”, said Paus.

This same Friday, the Tehran Neighborhood Youth group, which has helped organize the protests that have taken place in the country for a month now, has again called protests for this Saturday, according to information from the Iran International television network. .
