The 80th congress of the French Socialist Party ends after several days of internal disputes
29 Jan. () –
The Socialist Party of France has confirmed this Saturday the re-election of Olivier Faure as first secretary of the party after an agreement with his competitor Nicolas Mayer-Rossingol during the second round after several days of infighting.
The vote took place this weekend at the Palais du Pharo, in Marseille, where the 186 party delegates almost unanimously waved their red card that validated the agreement between the two rivals.
In this way, and after several days of the 80th congress of the Socialist Party, which started this Friday and will end this Sunday, Faure will continue to be the leader of the Socialist Party and will be flanked by two deputy first secretaries: the mayor of Rouen Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol and the mayoress from Nantes Johanna Rolland.
For her part, Hélène Geoffroy, who came third in the party’s votes during the first round, held on January 12, will be the president of the party’s Parliament.
“It has been a tense congress,” Olivier admitted. “We have reached an agreement on global governance that includes both the majority and the minority,” added the leader in statements collected by ‘Le Parisien’.
“Our responsibility is to make the left win, where we do not have adversaries, but competitors,” Mayer-Rossingol stated according to the aforementioned media, which until the end has threatened to attack the results of the militants’ vote in court.
