MADRID 8 Oct. () –
The National Assembly of France rejected this Tuesday a motion of censure presented by the left against the Government of Prime Minister Michel Barnier, with the votes against the far-right National Rally party.
The president of the Assembly, Yael Braun-Pivet, has reported that a total of 197 deputies have supported the motion, although the initiative has fallen far short of the threshold of 289, which is why it has been rejected, according to the BFM TV network.
The leader of the Socialist Party, Olivier Fauré, accused Barnier shortly before the vote of remaining in office only with the “consent of the extreme right.” “His government will end up being nothing more than a simple elevator to the scaffold,” he added.
In response, Barnier assured in his turn to speak that the left has presented an “a priori motion of censure.” “The same day after my appointment as prime minister (…) you (said that) you were going to censure me,” he stressed before the Assembly.
Left-wing parties have protested against Barnier’s Government because they consider that the vote of the French people has not been respected after the victory of the New Popular Front (NFP) coalition in the last legislative elections.
