Lawyer Jean-Christophe Muller of the Paris Court of Appeal has demanded seven years in prison against Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred for an alleged rape of a 20-year-old girl in the French capital, Paris.
The Moroccan singer, 37, is accused of raping and physically assaulting Laura P., 20, in October 2016 in a luxurious Paris hotel. Lamjarred met the plaintiff in a nightclub after giving a concert in the French capital.
The defendant has denied that he had raped the young woman, indicating that they only limited themselves to kissing. However, the Prosecutor’s Office has indicated that his version is not supported by evidence of the victim’s injuries and witness testimony, as reported by Radio France International.
King Mohamed VI of Morocco announced in 2016 that he would pay for the defense of the singer, who has affirmed during the trial that the sexual relations were consensual, alleging details of the night, such as that during his taxi trip to the hotel the plaintiff grabbed him by the hand and flirted with him in the room.
Lamjared also has other, very similar rape charges against him, about which he has refused to testify. In April 2015, he allegedly assaulted a Franco-Moroccan woman in Casablanca, who withdrew the complaint after being pressured by her family.
