( Spanish) — The Central Military Hospital of Colombia confirmed this friday on Twitter the death of the former mayor of Bogotá Samuel Gustavo Moreno Rojas.
The care center said earlier that the former official was in “coronary intensive care, progressive hemodynamic instability, with involvement of multiple organs and systems.”
Moreno was sentenced to 11 years and 10 months for being “determinative in the crimes of undue interest in the execution of contracts and own bribery in criminal co-participation,” according to the report Prosecutor’s website.
Moreno was the object of investigation for the corruption scandal known as the “contracting carousel”, who would have delivered commissions of more than 6,000 million Colombian pesos (about US$ 2.7 million) in the award of the contract for the ambulances for the capital of the country in nominal terms of 2009.
The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office demonstrated that Moreno Rojas was responsible for delivering the bribes in the district health network contract for 67,000 million pesos (about 22 million dollars).
The contract consisted of improving care for users of the health system, through the operation of 55 ambulances and 15 rapid response vehicles.
