The opposition refuses to recognize the results that give victory to Georgian Dream

MADRID 26 Oct. () –

The first preliminary results on actual voting published by the Central Electoral Commission of Georgia point to a clear victory for the ruling party, Georgian Dream (55.99 percent), while the rest of the candidates remain below 12 percent.

Georgian Dream would have achieved 935,004 votes, 52.99 percent, ahead of Coalition for Change (11.2 percent and 197,619 votes), Unity-National Movement (9.83 percent and 173,510 votes), Strong Georgia ( 9.02 percent and 159,306 votes), Gajaria-For Georgia (8.22 percent and 145,205 votes). The rest have not achieved the minimum 5 percent.

These data correspond to the electronic count of 2,206 tables, 97 percent of those that have voted electronically and 90 percent of all tables in total. Participation was 58.94 percent. The final results on the counting of physical ballots will be known on Sunday.

The three exit polls published gave contradictory results, which is why both the ruling party and the opposition have celebrated the victory.

REJECTION OF THE OPPOSITION

The leader of the main Georgian opposition party, Unity-United National Movement, Tina Bokuchava, has already expressed her rejection of the official results.

“We do not accept the results of the elections that have been hijacked. We are not going to recognize these stolen results,” Bokuchava declared at a press conference after learning of the first official results published by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

Bokuchava stressed that “Unity will fight to recover the European future” of Georgia, according to the InterPressNews news agency. “Today’s historic elections were a protest of the Georgian people and remain a victory of the Georgian people, but we see that the CEC has carried out the dirty order of (Bidzina) Ivanishvili to steal the victory from the Georgian people and thus steal the European future “, he added in reference to the billionaire and leader of the Georgian Dream party.

He has also claimed “the victory of the Georgian people and that they do not belong to any party, but to the entire country, to the opposition, which has received the joint mandate of confidence in our European future.” “We are not going to accept the results of stolen elections,” he stressed.

The Coalition for Change has also rejected the official results through one of its leaders, Nika Gvaramia. “We did not expect not to accept the results of these elections, but they have stolen the elections. It is a coup d’état and Georgian Dream is responsible and they will be held accountable,” he indicated.

Gvaramia explained that they are investigating “the various ways in which the elections have been stolen.” “Our unequivocal decision is that Georgian Dream will not continue in power. It is a constitutional coup d’état,” he denounced.

He has mentioned as examples the manipulation of the verification system, multiple electronic voting, falsifications or multiple votes from the same person in different polling stations.
