The FPÖ, a party allied with ultranationalist and far-right groups in Europe such as Brothers of Italy or Hungarian Fideszthus achieving its best electoral result, even surpassing that of the historic leader Jörg Haider in 1999.
On that occasion, despite being the second most voted force, the party handed over the leadership of the Government to the ÖVP, which was third. Now, Kickl has warned during the campaign that if he wins the elections he will demand that he be entrusted with the formation of the Executive.
In principle, the rest of the parties have advanced their refusal to form coalition with the FPÖ.
