BRUSSELS Nov. 14 () –
The European Commission will allocate 60 million euros to the purchase of Mistral missiles in Spain and eight other Member States within the framework of the first round of projects financed by the EU to support the common acquisition of critical defense products by the Twenty-seven.
Along with Spain, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Slovenia, Estonia, France, Hungary and Romania will also benefit from the financing of the ‘Mistral project’ to acquire these very short-range air defense systems.
In this first round of financing, the EU will allocate a total of 300 million euros to five selected projects – 60 million per project – to also support the purchase of IRIS-T SLM missiles, armored vehicles or ammunition.
The five selected projects represent a combined contract value of more than €11 billion, illustrating the high leverage power of EU funding.
They will now enter the phase of preparing the grant agreement, which involves detailed coordination between the Commission and the consortia of public authorities in the Member States.
