The European Union has strongly condemned the terrorist attack carried out this Friday by a Palestinian gunman against a synagogue in East Jerusalem, which has killed at least seven people.

“We condemn, in the strongest terms, today’s heinous terrorist attack against worshipers in Jerusalem, especially on International Holocaust Remembrance Day,” European Union Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi said in a message. on the social network Twitter.

According to Varhelyi, there is no explanation for “terrorism”. In this sense, he has conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims.

“There can be no explanation for terrorism. My deepest condolences to the families. We are with Israel,” the European commissioner stressed in his letter.

The armed attack occurred in the vicinity of a synagogue in Neve Yaakov, in East Jerusalem. The Palestinian man has fired from a car at a building used as a Jewish temple, killing at least seven people and wounding several more.

After that, the suspect, a resident of East Jerusalem, fled to the Palestinian neighborhood of Beit Hanina, where he was neutralized by Israeli Police officers while trying to flee the place on foot.
